Holland Herald is the inflight magazine of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
First published in January 1966, an astounding 123.7 million copies of the magazine
with over 700 million readers have since flown an astronomical 350 thousand million
kilometres!
Here's a snapshot of our long and colourful history spanning over 40 years.
January - Holland Herald undergoes its first restyle since January 2004, to tie in with KLM's new brand identity. Alternative typefaces and page grids contribute to a fresh, modern look for the magazine.
The October issue of Holland Herald - Legends - is awarded "Best Cover 2008", in the Contract Publishing category, by Dutch publishers' association, Media Facts, at its 3rd Contract Media Congress held in Haarlem, The Netherlands.
Holland Herald is nominated for a prestigious Avion Award in the Best Inflight Magazine category and wins the first runner-up title.
The magazine format gets smaller. "Less is More" is the design
watchword. Holland Herald wins the 1996 Avion Award (the inflight Oscars)
for Best Inflight Magazine in the world. Photo contest launched in 2000.
Photography and illustrations became a major driving
force in the magazine. Photographers
such as Anton Corbijn and Frans Lanting regularly contribute their pictures.
Travel reportages were also a major section.
The first issue of Holland Herald is published. Its philosophy?
"Entertaining, modern stories of what's happening in Holland today".
The exclusively Dutch focus was later dropped.
